Business quality
A moat (a brand, a network, switching costs, patents, scale, a licence) is not a number in the filings, so Valerius doesn’t score it. Below are the figures and the words moat analysis starts from, from the company’s own 10-K filings. The conclusion is yours.
Return on capital, each year
Above 15% in 0 of 8 years (2019-2026); lowest -90.2%, highest -0.5%.
Gross margin, each year
Not reported: the filings don’t state a gross profit or cost of revenue figure, as is common for oil and gas companies, banks and insurers.
Competition, in the company’s own words · 10-K filed Mar 5, 2026
We primarily compete with established and emerging security product vendors. While the market for traditional endpoint and IT operations solutions has historically been intensely competitive, we believe that the architecture of our cloud-native, single sensor platform fundamentally differentiates us compared to both next-gen and legacy competitors in the security industry. Additionally, as we look to enter into adjacent markets and expand our total addressable market, we may face new competitors. However, we do not believe any of our competitors currently have a true platform offering equivalent to the Falcon platform, which can be leveraged to win in legacy markets and define new categories. Our competitors currently include the following by general category: • legacy antivirus product providers who offer a broad range of approaches and solutions including traditional signature-based antivirus protection; • alternative endpoint security providers who generally offer a mix of on-premises and cloud-hosted products that rely heavily on malware-only or application whitelisting techniques; • network security vendors who are supplementing their core perimeter-based offerings with endpoint or cloud security solutions; • cloud security vendors, including those who focus on public cloud infrastructure and services; • identity security vendors that seek to identify and secure user accounts and related activities;

Return on capital = operating income / (total assets − current liabilities), the ROIC row’s definition; 15% is the framework’s return threshold. Gross margin = gross profit / revenue. Both from each year’s 10-K via SEC EDGAR. Moat analysis commonly looks at whether returns and margins held up over many years. These figures don’t say whether the company has an advantage, what it is, or whether it will last.
Capital allocation, 2023-2026: dividends or buybacks paid in 0 of 4 years (fail); $0 paid out against $3.91B of free cash flow (pass); total debt $783.62M to $820.08M, up 4.7%, 4.5x EBITDA (pass: not up more than 10%); shares outstanding 0.89B to 1.01B, up 13.7% (fail: up more than 2%). 2 of 4 tests passed; the framework scores that as 3.
