Business quality
A moat (a brand, a network, switching costs, patents, scale, a licence) is not a number in the filings, so Valerius doesn’t score it. Below are the figures and the words moat analysis starts from, from the company’s own 10-K filings. The conclusion is yours.
Return on capital, each year
Above 15% in 0 of 10 years (2016-2025); lowest -15.2%, highest 14.4%.
Gross margin, each year
Between 35.5% and 82.5% over 10 years (a range of 47.0 points).
Competition, in the company’s own words · 10-K filed Feb 18, 2026
Other natural gas producers compete with us in the acquisition of properties; the search for, and development of, reserves; the production and sale of natural gas and NGLs; and the securing of services, labor, equipment and transportation required to conduct operations. Our competitors include independent oil and gas companies, major oil and gas companies, individual producers, operators and marketing companies and other energy companies that produce substitutes for the commodities that we produce. Competitors for our natural gas gathering business include companies that own major natural gas pipelines, independent gas gatherers and integrated energy companies, including natural gas producers that develop or acquire their own gathering system. When compared to us, some of our competitors have operations in multiple natural gas producing basins, greater capital resources and access to, or control of, larger natural gas supplies. Competition for our natural gas transmission and storage business is based primarily on rates, customer commitment levels, timing, performance, commercial terms, reliability, service levels, location, reputation and fuel efficiencies. Our principal competitors include companies that own major natural gas pipelines in the Appalachian Basin. In addition, we compete with companies that are building high-pressure gathering facilities that are able to transport natural gas to interstate pipelines without being subject to FERC jurisdiction.

Return on capital = operating income / (total assets − current liabilities), the ROIC row’s definition; 15% is the framework’s return threshold. Gross margin = gross profit / revenue. Both from each year’s 10-K via SEC EDGAR. Moat analysis commonly looks at whether returns and margins held up over many years. These figures don’t say whether the company has an advantage, what it is, or whether it will last.
Capital allocation, 2022-2025: dividends or buybacks paid in every year (pass); $1.76B paid out against $6.64B of free cash flow (pass); total debt $5.71B to $7.86B, up 37.5%, 1.3x EBITDA (pass: at most 2x EBITDA); shares outstanding 0.37B to 0.62B, up 70.8% (fail: up more than 2%). 3 of 4 tests passed; the framework scores that as 4.

Graham Formula:
IV = EPS x (8.5 + 2g) x (4.4 / Y)
EPS = $4.31, g = 0.0%, Y = 4.5
g floored at 0.0% (3-year EPS CAGR was -11.4%; below -4.25% the formula returns a negative value)
IV = $35.82
Current price $54.30 vs Graham value $35.82 — price is 51.6% above the model value.
DCF:
FCF/share = $3.934
Stage 1 growth = 20.0% for 5 years | terminal growth = 3.0% | discount rate = 10.0%
Stage 1 g capped at 20.0% (3-year revenue CAGR was 28.4%)
Y1: $4.721 → PV $4.292
Y2: $5.665 → PV $4.682
Y3: $6.798 → PV $5.108
Y4: $8.158 → PV $5.572
Y5: $9.790 → PV $6.079
Stage 1 PV sum = $25.73
Terminal value at end of Y5 = $144.05
PV of terminal value = $89.44
DCF value = $115.17
Current price $54.30 vs DCF value $115.17 — price is 52.9% below the model value.Data from yfinance summary figures and financial statements, and from the company’s 10-K filings via SEC EDGAR; computed at a price of $54.30. Every score is calculated from the figures by the framework’s fixed rules, and the explanation beside it is generated from the same figures: Graham value, DCF value, margin of safety, ROIC, profit margins, debt-to-equity, price-to-book, EPS trend, ROE trend, free cash flow, retained earnings and capital allocation.
