Business quality
A moat (a brand, a network, switching costs, patents, scale, a licence) is not a number in the filings, so Valerius doesn’t score it. Below are the figures and the words moat analysis starts from, from the company’s own 10-K filings. The conclusion is yours.
Return on capital, each year
Above 15% in 10 of 10 years (2017-2026); lowest 19.5%, highest 43.2%.

Competition, in the company’s own words · 10-K filed Aug 6, 2026
The worldwide market for technologically advanced process control, process-enabling and yield management solutions used by semiconductor and electronics manufacturers is highly competitive, with important competitive factors including system performance, ease of use, reliability, technical service and support, and overall cost of ownership. However, we believe that, while these competitive factors are important, our customers’ overriding requirement is for systems that effectively incorporate automated capabilities into their existing development and manufacturing processes to enhance productivity, improve yields and reduce waste. To remain competitive, we use significant financial resources to offer a broad range of products, maintain customer service and support centers worldwide, and invest significantly in product R&D. In each of our product markets, we have many competitors, including companies such as Applied Materials, Inc., ASML Holding N.V., Hitachi High-Tech Corporation, Lasertec, Inc. and Onto Innovation, Inc., some of which may have greater financial, research, engineering, manufacturing and marketing resources than we have. We expect our competitors to continue to improve the design and performance of their current products and to introduce new products with improved pricing and performance characteristics. We may also face future competition from new market entrants overseas or domestically.

Return on capital = operating income / (total assets − current liabilities), the ROIC row’s definition; 15% is the framework’s return threshold. For a year whose 10-K financial data has no standard operating income figure, earnings before interest and taxes (pre-tax income plus interest expense) is used. Gross margin = gross profit / revenue. Both from each year’s 10-K via SEC EDGAR. Moat analysis commonly looks at whether returns and margins held up over many years. These figures don’t say whether the company has an advantage, what it is, or whether it will last.
Capital allocation, 2023-2026: dividends or buybacks paid in every year (pass); $10.96B paid out against $13.87B of free cash flow (pass); total debt $6.06B to $6.15B, up 1.5%, 1.0x EBITDA (pass: not up more than 10%); shares outstanding 1.37B to 1.31B, down 4.4% (pass). 4 of 4 tests passed; the framework scores that as 5.

These are events the company reported to the SEC. An auditor change or a late filing can have many causes; each date links to the filing, where the company explains it. Valerius does not score these.
Graham Formula:
IV = EPS x (8.5 + 2g) x (4.4 / Y)
EPS = $3.66, g = 20.0%, Y = 4.5
g capped at 20.0% (3-year EPS CAGR was 34.3%)
IV = $173.57
Current price $165.74 vs Graham value $173.57 — price is 4.5% below the model value.
DCF:
FCF/share = $2.011
Stage 1 growth = 17.6% for 5 years | terminal growth = 3.0% | discount rate = 10.0%
Y1: $2.365 → PV $2.150
Y2: $2.781 → PV $2.299
Y3: $3.271 → PV $2.457
Y4: $3.847 → PV $2.627
Y5: $4.524 → PV $2.809
Stage 1 PV sum = $12.34
Terminal value at end of Y5 = $66.56
PV of terminal value = $41.33
DCF value = $53.67
Current price $165.74 vs DCF value $53.67 — price is 208.8% above the model value.Data from yfinance summary figures and financial statements, and from the company’s 10-K filings via SEC EDGAR; computed at a price of $165.74. Every score is calculated from the figures by the framework’s fixed rules, and the explanation beside it is generated from the same figures: Graham value, DCF value, margin of safety, ROIC, profit margins, debt-to-equity, price-to-book, EPS trend, ROE trend, free cash flow, retained earnings and capital allocation. No AI is involved in this scorecard. The moat is shown as evidence, without a score. Read each score with the figures beside it.
