Business quality
A moat (a brand, a network, switching costs, patents, scale, a licence) is not a number in the filings, so Valerius doesn’t score it. Below are the figures and the words moat analysis starts from, from the company’s own 10-K filings. The conclusion is yours.
Return on capital, each year
Above 15% in 10 of 10 years (2016-2025); lowest 16.7%, highest 25.5%.
Gross margin, each year
Between 9.8% and 14.0% over 10 years (a range of 4.2 points).
Competition, in the company’s own words · 10-K filed Jan 29, 2026
We compete with many different companies both within and outside of the defense and aerospace industry. The Boeing Company, General Dynamics, L3Harris Technologies, Northrop Grumman, and RTX Corporation are some of our primary competitors. Key characteristics of our industry include long operating cycles and intense competition, which is evident through the number of competitors bidding on program opportunities and the existence of bid protests (competitor protests of U.S. Government procurement awards). We often collaborate with our competitors through teaming arrangements in efforts to provide our customers with the best mix of capabilities to address specific requirements. Additionally, a company competing to be a prime contractor may, upon ultimate award of the contract to another competitor, serve as a subcontractor to the ultimate prime contracting company. It is not unusual to compete for a contract award with a peer company and, simultaneously, perform as a supplier to or a customer of that same competitor on other contracts. Our broad portfolio of products and services competes domestically and internationally against products and services of the companies listed above, numerous smaller competitors and startups, and increasingly, non-traditional and non-U.S. defense contractors. In some areas of our business, customer requirements and acquisition processes are changing to encourage or facilitate expanded competition.

Return on capital = operating income / (total assets − current liabilities), the ROIC row’s definition; 15% is the framework’s return threshold. Gross margin = gross profit / revenue. Both from each year’s 10-K via SEC EDGAR. Moat analysis commonly looks at whether returns and margins held up over many years. These figures don’t say whether the company has an advantage, what it is, or whether it will last.
Capital allocation, 2022-2025: dividends or buybacks paid in every year (pass); $32.86B paid out against $24.56B of free cash flow (fail: paid out more than free cash flow); total debt $15.55B to $21.70B, up 39.6%, 2.5x EBITDA (fail: up more than 10% and above 2x EBITDA); shares outstanding 0.25B to 0.23B, down 9.8% (pass). 2 of 4 tests passed; the framework scores that as 3.

These are events the company reported to the SEC. An auditor change or a late filing can have many causes; each date links to the filing, where the company explains it. Valerius does not score these.
Graham Formula:
IV = EPS x (8.5 + 2g) x (4.4 / Y)
EPS = $27.13, g = 0.0%, Y = 4.5
g floored at 0.0% (3-year EPS CAGR was -11.7%; below -4.25% the formula returns a negative value)
IV = $225.48
Current price $552.09 vs Graham value $225.48 — price is 144.9% above the model value.
DCF:
FCF/share = $24.102
Stage 1 growth = 5.4% for 5 years | terminal growth = 3.0% | discount rate = 10.0%
Y1: $25.404 → PV $23.095
Y2: $26.776 → PV $22.129
Y3: $28.222 → PV $21.203
Y4: $29.746 → PV $20.317
Y5: $31.352 → PV $19.467
Stage 1 PV sum = $106.21
Terminal value at end of Y5 = $461.32
PV of terminal value = $286.44
DCF value = $392.65
Current price $552.09 vs DCF value $392.65 — price is 40.6% above the model value.Data from yfinance summary figures and financial statements, and from the company’s 10-K filings via SEC EDGAR; computed at a price of $552.09. Every score is calculated from the figures by the framework’s fixed rules, and the explanation beside it is generated from the same figures: Graham value, DCF value, margin of safety, ROIC, profit margins, debt-to-equity, price-to-book, EPS trend, ROE trend, free cash flow, retained earnings and capital allocation.
